About Us

Our story began long before Nomadic of the Blue Sky became a company.

In 2008, our founder, Batbold Uuganbayar, began his journey in tourism by completing professional training as a tour guide and interpreter. What started as a desire to introduce Mongolia to visitors soon became a lifelong commitment to sharing the country he knows, respects, and calls home.

In 2010, he founded Nomadic of the Blue Sky, with a simple philosophy: travelers should experience Mongolia as it truly is — through its people, landscapes, traditions, wildlife, and the stories that connect them.

Having traveled throughout all 21 provinces of Mongolia, Batbold has developed an intimate knowledge of the country that cannot be learned from guidebooks alone. From the vast landscapes of the Gobi Desert and the remote Altai Mountains to the forests of northern Mongolia and the homes of nomadic families, years spent traveling across the country have shaped the way we design every journey.

For us, Mongolia is not simply a destination that we sell. It is our home.

That is why our responsibility goes beyond tourism. We believe travel should contribute to protecting the places, wildlife, and cultures that make Mongolia extraordinary. Alongside his work in tourism, Batbold serves as the Director of Mongolian Operations for a U.S.-based wild camel conservation organization, supporting efforts dedicated to the protection of Mongolia's critically endangered wild Bactrian camel and its fragile desert habitat.

This conservation work reflects a principle that has guided our company from the beginning: tourism should give something back.

We value Mongolia's rare traditions, remote communities, wildlife, and natural landscapes, and we work to introduce them to travelers in a respectful and responsible way. Whenever possible, we work directly with local guides, drivers, herder families, eagle hunters, camps, and communities so that tourism benefits the people who make these journeys possible.

Over the years, we have welcomed travelers from around the world — from first-time visitors and families to photographers, adventurers, private groups, and those seeking journeys far beyond Mongolia's usual tourist routes.

Yet our approach remains personal.

We listen carefully to our guests, remain flexible when Mongolia's unpredictable nature requires it, and use our local knowledge to create journeys that feel genuine rather than manufactured. We do not want our guests simply to see Mongolia. We want them to understand something of its spirit, meet its people, experience its immense landscapes, and return home with stories they will remember for years.
