Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, where our guide and driver will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. After some time to rest, enjoy a welcome lunch and a relaxed introduction to Mongolia. Depending on your arrival time, you may explore central Ulaanbaatar before enjoying a welcome dinner with your guide.
Today is dedicated to the spectacular Nomads World Cultural Festival, one of Mongolia’s most colorful celebrations of nomadic heritage. Experience traditional clothing, music, dance, craftsmanship, archery, wrestling and impressive displays of horsemanship. The festival brings together communities and cultural traditions from different regions of Mongolia, offering excellent opportunities for photography and cultural interaction.
Leave the capital and travel west to Khustai National Park, home of the famous Przewalski’s horse, known locally as the takhi. Explore the beautiful steppe landscape and visit areas where these rare wild horses can often be observed in their natural habitat. In the evening, settle into a traditional ger camp surrounded by the peaceful Mongolian countryside.
Continue through the vast central Mongolian steppe toward Elsen Tasarkhai, a remarkable landscape where sand dunes meet grassland and rocky hills. Visit a local nomadic family and learn about everyday life on the steppe. Depending on local conditions, there will be an opportunity to experience a short camel ride and enjoy sunset over the dunes.
Travel to Kharkhorin, the historic heart of the Mongol Empire and the site of ancient Karakorum, once the capital established during the era of the Great Mongol Empire. Visit Erdene Zuu Monastery, Mongolia’s oldest surviving Buddhist monastery, and explore the local museum to gain a deeper understanding of the region’s extraordinary history.
After breakfast, leave Kharkhorin and travel to the peaceful shores of Ugii Lake, a beautiful freshwater lake surrounded by the open steppe of central Mongolia. The lake is well known for its rich birdlife and tranquil scenery. Spend the afternoon walking along the lakeshore, relaxing at the ger camp and enjoying the wide-open landscapes of rural Mongolia.
After breakfast, begin the overland journey back to Ulaanbaatar. Enjoy the changing landscapes of the Mongolian countryside along the way, stopping for lunch en route. Arrive in Ulaanbaatar in the late afternoon or evening and transfer to your hotel. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with your guide.
After breakfast, transfer to Chinggis Khaan International Airport for your departure flight. Your journey concludes with memories of Mongolia’s vibrant Nomads World Cultural Festival, ancient history, beautiful landscapes and nomadic heritage.
