Mongolia Taimen Fishing Expedition – 13 Days
Experience one of Mongolia’s most exclusive fishing adventures on a private 13-day taimen expedition into the remote north. Spend seven full days fishing carefully protected waters with an experienced local guide, boatman and motorboat support, while staying at a comfortable riverside base far from the main tourist routes.
The Mongolia Taimen Fishing Expedition is designed for serious anglers looking for a true wilderness fishing experience in one of Mongolia’s most remote northern regions.
Rather than moving between multiple sightseeing destinations, this journey is built around seven full fishing days, allowing anglers enough time to adapt to changing river conditions, explore different stretches of water and maximize their chances of encountering Mongolia’s legendary taimen.
Each fishing day is supported by an experienced local fishing guide and boatman, with motorboat access to selected sections of the river. Fishing plans remain flexible and are adjusted according to water levels, weather conditions and recent fish activity.
Guests stay at a dedicated fishing base with two people per private house, three meals per day, packed lunches when fishing away from camp and sauna access after long days on the river.
The journey also includes overland travel through Northern Mongolia, hotel stays in Ulaanbaatar and Murun, and the option to return from Murun by domestic flight when schedules allow.
To protect this sensitive fishery and reduce unnecessary fishing pressure, the exact river, fishing pools and access locations are intentionally not published online. Detailed logistical information is shared with confirmed guests before departure.

Welcome to Mongolia. Upon arrival at Chinggis Khaan International Airport, you will be met by our team and transferred privately to your hotel in Ulaanbaatar. The rest of the day is reserved for rest and recovery after your international journey. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a relaxed meal or explore the nearby area at your own pace. No long-distance travel is planned today, allowing you to begin the expedition well rested.
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your domestic flight from Ulaanbaatar to Murun, the gateway to Northern Mongolia. Upon arrival in Murun, you will be transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is used for final expedition preparations. Guests may purchase personal supplies, drinks, snacks and any last-minute items required for the fishing week. Your guide will also review the upcoming overland journey and fishing logistics. Overnight in Murun before travelling deeper into the remote north the following morning.
After breakfast, depart Murun by private expedition vehicle and begin the long overland journey toward the fishing region. This is one of the most demanding transfer days of the expedition, travelling through increasingly remote landscapes and rougher roads as we move deeper into Northern Mongolia. Lunch will be taken en route at a local town or countryside restaurant. Several stops will be made along the way for rest, refreshments and photography. Arrival at the remote fishing base is expected in the evening. After checking into your accommodation, enjoy dinner and rest before beginning the fishing program the following morning.
After breakfast, meet your local fishing guide and boatman for an introduction to the river, current conditions and the fishing strategy for the day. A motorboat is used to access carefully selected sections of the river and promising holding water. Fishing locations are chosen according to water level, weather conditions and recent fish activity. For anglers fishing farther from the base, a packed lunch will be prepared so that valuable fishing time is not lost returning to camp. Return to the fishing base in the evening for dinner and rest.
Spend another full day exploring the river with your local fishing guide and boatman. Based on the previous day's observations, the guide may select a different section of water or return to productive areas at a more favorable time. The focus is on carefully working quality water rather than rushing between fishing locations. After fishing, return to the base for dinner. Guests may also enjoy the sauna after a long day on the river.
Continue your taimen fishing expedition with another full day on the water. Depending on river conditions, the day may combine boat-assisted fishing with opportunities to fish selected sections from shore. The daily program remains intentionally flexible so that fishing decisions can be made according to actual conditions rather than following a rigid schedule. Return to the fishing base in the evening.
Today may be used to explore a more distant section of the river system. An early departure allows maximum fishing time and gives the guide greater flexibility to reach less frequently visited water. A packed lunch will be carried for a full day away from the base. Fishing locations will be selected according to current conditions, water levels and recent activity. Return to the fishing base in the evening for dinner and rest.
The fifth full fishing day allows the expedition to build on everything learned during the first half of the week. Depending on results, the guide may revisit productive water or continue exploring new sections of the river. The multi-day format gives anglers the important advantage of adjusting to changing weather, river levels and fish behavior. Return to the base in the evening.
Another full day is dedicated entirely to fishing. Using the motorboat, your guide and boatman will take you to carefully selected stretches of the river based on recent fishing conditions. The exact fishing plan remains flexible and may change during the day to make the most of opportunities on the river. Return to the fishing base for dinner and relaxation.
Your seventh and final full fishing day. Using the experience and information gathered throughout the week, your guide will select the areas believed to offer the strongest fishing opportunities. This may involve returning to productive sections or exploring one final stretch of new water. After the day's fishing, return to the base for a final dinner and evening in this remote wilderness.
After breakfast, leave the fishing base and begin the long overland journey back to Murun. This is a full transfer day through the remote landscapes of Northern Mongolia. Rest and meal stops will be made along the route. Arrival in Murun is expected in the evening. Check into your hotel, enjoy a hot shower and rest after the wilderness portion of the expedition.
After breakfast, transfer to Murun Airport for your domestic flight back to Ulaanbaatar. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred privately to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free for rest, shopping or exploring Ulaanbaatar at your own pace. Keeping this final night in Ulaanbaatar also provides an important buffer before your international departure.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. At the appropriate time, private transfer will be provided to Chinggis Khaan International Airport for your international departure.
