Experience Mongolia from the saddle on an unforgettable 10-day motorcycle expedition across approximately 2,100 km of open steppe, remote desert tracks and legendary landscapes.
Designed for experienced adventure riders, this fully supported journey takes you far beyond Mongolia’s main roads, combining eight days of riding across gravel, hard-packed steppe, rocky terrain, desert tracks and occasional sand. From the moment you leave Ulaanbaatar, the landscape opens into the vast, seemingly endless spaces that make Mongolia one of the world’s great motorcycle destinations.
Ride south across the steppe to the granite formations of Baga Gazriin Chuluu before entering the Gobi and the spectacular White Stupa cliffs of Tsagaan Suvarga. Continue through desert plains toward Yolyn Am, where a dramatic mountain gorge cuts through the Gobi Altai.
From here, the expedition reaches one of its most memorable stages: riding remote desert tracks toward the immense Khongor Sand Dunes. Meet a local camel-herding family and experience sunset over one of the Gobi’s most iconic landscapes before continuing across mixed sand, gravel and hard-packed trails to the red sandstone cliffs of Bayanzag.
The route then turns north through increasingly remote wilderness toward the ruins of Ongi Monastery. As the desert gradually gives way to greener steppe, ride into Mongolia’s historic heartland and reach Kharkhorin, the former capital region of the Mongol Empire, with a visit to Erdene Zuu Monastery.
Your final riding stage crosses Central Mongolia back to Ulaanbaatar, completing an extraordinary journey across some of the country’s most varied terrain.
This is a fully supported motorcycle expedition. Dedicated 4WD support vehicles carry luggage, water, tools, spare parts and emergency equipment, while an experienced motorcycle guide, mechanic, drivers and local expedition crew support the journey from start to finish.
The expedition is not a race. It is about the ride, the wilderness and the freedom of crossing Mongolia by motorcycle.
Previous motorcycle riding experience is required. Riders should be comfortable on unpaved surfaces including gravel, loose stones, hard-packed desert tracks and occasional sand. Daily routes and distances may be adjusted according to weather, terrain, track conditions and rider safety.
Welcome to Mongolia! Upon arrival at Chinggis Khaan International Airport, meet our team and transfer to your hotel. Later, meet your motorcycle guide and expedition crew for a full trip briefing, motorcycle allocation, safety orientation and test ride. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner with the team.
The adventure begins as we leave Ulaanbaatar behind and ride south into Mongolia’s vast open steppe. The traffic quickly disappears, giving way to gravel roads, open tracks and endless horizons. Our destination is Baga Gazriin Chuluu, a striking granite mountain formation rising dramatically from the surrounding steppe. This first riding day is a perfect introduction to Mongolia’s wide-open terrain. Ride: ~250 km
Continue south across fast steppe and gravel tracks toward Tsagaan Suvarga, also known as the White Stupa. The landscape becomes increasingly arid as we approach the Gobi, ending the day among Tsagaan Suvarga’s spectacular multicolored cliffs and eroded formations. Ride: ~240 km
Ride deeper into the Gobi across vast desert plains and remote tracks toward the foothills of the Gobi Altai Mountains. Arrive at Yolyn Am, a dramatic narrow gorge surrounded by rugged mountain scenery. After a long day on the motorcycles, explore the valley and enjoy the contrasting landscapes of mountains and desert. Ride: ~280 km
One of the expedition’s classic Gobi riding days. Follow remote desert tracks across open plains toward the immense Khongor Sand Dunes, some of the most spectacular dunes in Mongolia. Visit a local camel-herding family and experience traditional life in the Gobi before enjoying sunset over the dunes. Ride: ~200 km
Ride through a changing mixture of sand, gravel and hard-packed desert tracks toward Bayanzag. Known worldwide as the Flaming Cliffs, Bayanzag is famous for its dramatic red sandstone formations and historic dinosaur discoveries. Explore the cliffs in the late afternoon before settling into camp. Ride: ~170 km
Today is a longer wilderness riding stage across the open Gobi. Ride north through remote landscapes where settlements are few and the horizon seems endless. By afternoon, reach the atmospheric ruins of Ongi Monastery beside the Ongi River — a fascinating reminder of Mongolia’s Buddhist history. Ride: ~300 km
Leave the Gobi behind as the desert gradually transforms into the greener grasslands of Central Mongolia. Ride toward historic Kharkhorin, the former capital region of the Mongol Empire. Visit Erdene Zuu Monastery, Mongolia’s oldest surviving Buddhist monastery complex, and discover the fascinating history of this legendary region. Ride: ~300 km
The final and longest riding stage takes us east across the sweeping landscapes of Central Mongolia toward Ulaanbaatar. Arriving back in the capital marks the completion of approximately 2,100 km of riding across Mongolia. Return the motorcycles, check into the hotel and celebrate the expedition with a farewell dinner together. Ride: ~360 km
After breakfast, private transfer to Chinggis Khaan International Airport according to your international flight schedule. The motorcycle expedition ends here after an unforgettable journey across the Gobi Desert, open steppe and historic heartland of Mongolia.
