MONGOLIA YAK FESTIVAL & ORKHON VALLEY ADVENTURE 2027

Discover the heart of Mongolia’s nomadic culture on a remarkable 9-day journey through the historic landscapes of Central Mongolia, highlighted by the annual Yak Festival in the Orkhon Valley.

Held every year on July 23 in Bat-Ulzii, the Yak Festival brings together local herding families to celebrate an animal that has supported life in Mongolia’s high mountain regions for generations. Experience a colorful day of traditional clothing, decorated yaks, local performances and unique competitions that may include yak racing, yak polo, yak catching and training, and displays of traditional yak products.

But this journey goes far beyond the festival.

Travel to Kharkhorin, the ancient capital of the Mongol Empire, and visit the historic Erdene Zuu Monastery before continuing deep into the UNESCO-listed Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape.

Stay close to a local nomadic family and experience the rhythms of everyday pastoral life while exploring the spectacular Orkhon Waterfall and the surrounding steppe.

After the Yak Festival, continue through the beautiful landscapes of Central Mongolia to Tsenkher Hot Springs, where you can relax in naturally heated mineral waters surrounded by forested hills.

The journey concludes in Khustai National Park, home of Mongolia’s successfully reintroduced Przewalski’s horses, known locally as takhi, before returning to Ulaanbaatar.

Combining a rare local festival with history, nature, wildlife and authentic nomadic encounters, this journey offers a deeper experience of Mongolia during one of the most beautiful periods of the summer.
